Advocacy Club Creative Writers Workshop

Attention legal creative writers and wannabes! The Advocacy Club's Creative Writers Workshop is up and running. The second set of sessions started in September 2020 and ran Thursday evenings to the end of November on Zoom Video. Each evening was led by Workshop members with short readings on theory, short stories from the Pros and a review of the homework exercises used to practice what the presenting member preached.
If you have tried your hand at writing fiction and want to learn and practice effective techniques to improve, give this workshop a chance. Next sessions should start in January 2021 again on Zoom. Learn about Character Development, Show - Don't Tell, Voice, Point of View, How to Give and Receive Feedback and each of the 5 steps of the Story Arc. Learn by doing, Advocacy Club-style!
To qualify, write and submit a short story of your own to john.hollander2@gmail.com to get the ball rolling. There is no cost to this Workshop, but act quickly - enrolment is limited.

Announcing the Advocacy Club Series of Stories
As a run-up to the forthcoming novel, Murphy's Law, John Hollander has published a series of short story "prequels" on Wattpad, available below.
In No Good Deed Goes Unpunished, Jake Murphy is a 3L who pleads the case of a driver charged with a traffic court offence, but gets takes on more than he bargained for. In Byline, journalism student Rebekah Khalil takes on a corrupt developer intent on destroying her community. In Survival, new Call, Iain Rohan, is tossed around like a plaything by the legal sharks in his dysfunctional office. In Inertia, 3L Suzanne Lapointe's parents pull a Bernie Madoff, leaving a stunned Suzanne to pick up the pieces of her life. In Strike Out, ambitious partner Antony Garcia plots to take over a big firm, heedless of the collateral damage. In The Associate, senior associate Marianne Adams jockeys for position in a cutthroat law firm while championing the case of Rebekah Khalil, who finds herself the target of a ruthless developer. In Finding Saul, a 2L has to leave law school to care for a desperately ill brother and is forced to confront his own value system. Coming soon, Murphy's Law will be published in serial format. |
