The Family Law Symposium took place August 6-7, 2019, at KPMG's offices in Ottawa.
Attendees learned and practiced techniques to argue a motion to change. This workshop involved an in-depth look at some of the common tools and resources practitioners need to know in order to advance their family law case effectively. In the two-day session participants met and learned from senior practitioners in the field. They participated in small-group seminars to practice the techniques and to receive immediate constructive feedback. Participants used a case study prepared for the course, an expert report, and put their skills to use to complete questioning and to argue the case in front of the team leaders. Participants also benefited from a presentation on the top “dos and don’ts” of arguing a motion to change by a seasoned superior court judge. The agenda included:
